Our story
How Ithazhi began
Ithazhi means petal — the single soft layer that makes a flower what it is. We started with one suitcase of kasavu sarees carried from Thrissur to a community hall in Melbourne’s west, because families here could not find the real thing without flying home for it.
Today we buy directly from twelve weaving families across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. No middlemen, no mill copies sold as handloom. Every silk saree arrives with a certificate, and we will tell you honestly when a piece is power-loom rather than pit-loom, because the price should match the work.
What we hold to
We buy directly and pay upfront, so the money reaches the loom rather than a warehouse.
Every silk saree is zari-tested and certified before it is listed. If it is not pure, we say so on the tag.
Unworn, tags on, returned free within Australia. Bridal pieces get a private try-on instead.
Come and see
Drape it, hold it to the light, feel the weight of the pallu. Always book an appointment before you visit, so the time is yours — bring your mother, bring your jeweller.
